Definition and Technical Parameters of Power Cords
2026-1-4

Definition of a Power Cord:

A power cord is an electrical wire used to transmit electric current. Typically, current is transmitted point-to-point through these cords. Based on their application, power cords can be categorized into AC (alternating current) power cords and DC (direct current) power cords. Generally, AC power cords carry higher-voltage alternating current. Due to the higher voltage, these cords must comply with unified standards and obtain safety certifications before they can be officially manufactured. In contrast, DC cords primarily carry lower-voltage direct current, so their safety requirements are not as stringent as those for AC cords. However, for safety reasons, most countries still require unified safety certifications.

Technical Standards:

The selection of power cords follows certain principles. As the saying goes, “nothing can be accomplished without norms or standards,” and this applies to power cords as well. Requirements related to quality and appearance are also implemented in accordance with power cord certification regulations. The principles guiding the manufacturing of power cords include:
(1) Selecting the conductor cross-section for DC power transmission lines based on the requirements for power transmission conductor cross-section selection outlined in the Ministry-issued Technical Regulations for Power System Design SDJ161-85;
(2) Technical Regulations for the Design of 110~500kV Overhead Transmission Lines DL/T5092-1999;
(3) Technical Guidelines for High-Voltage DC Overhead Transmission Lines DL436-2005.
